RM28mil allocated for Ipoh development projects

IPOH: A sum of RM28mil has been allocated for the development of public and socio-economic infrastructure in Perak, says Nga Kor Ming (pic).

The Housing and Local Government Minister said the project includes landscape development in the Sungai Kinta area, stretching from the Sultan Iskandar Bridge to the Jalan Leong Boon Swee Bridge, covering an estimated area of 5.7ha.

“The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry has also allocated RM5mil for landscape development along Sungai Kinta.

“This project is expected to create attractive tourist attractions which will further enhance the image of Ipoh city,” he said after the groundbreaking ceremony for the development of a parking complex and commercial space in Jalan Panglima here yesterday, Bernama reported.

Nga also said the project to upgrade the landfill in Teluk Cempedak, Pulau Pangkor, covering 3.16ha with a total allocation of RM21mil, involves reclaiming part of the open sea area for site construction and essential utilities.

In the meantime, Nga said the development of a five-storey parking complex on 0.4ha of land would feature 353 parking units, commercial space on the ground floor, as well as a creative culture centre and food outlets.

“This parking complex is also an initiative by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) and a private company, which invested RM15 million in its development.

“This long-awaited project is expected to significantly ease the parking woes faced by the people in the area for the last 20 years.”

Originally announced in January 2023, the complex will be located at the existing parking area behind the Han Chin Pet Soo (Han Chin Villa) building.
