KUALA LUMPUR: The Warisan KL initiative is part of the Madani government’s commitment to developing Kuala Lumpur into a city that embraces modernity while honouring its historical roots.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed that Kuala Lumpur should be showcased as a city reflecting the legacy of its people, not merely as a city of skyscrapers.
"A city must be fresh with interesting and attractive physical features that align with technological advancement and change in times.
"It must also remain deeply rooted in tradition and culture," Anwar said during the officiating ceremony of the Warisan KL initiative at the Kuala Lumpur Town Council (DBKL) on Friday (April 25) morning.
The initiative, known as "Warisan KL: Warisan Ibu Kota Malaysia Madani," is a public-private effort led by DBKL and ThinkCity.
Anwar emphasized that he could not accept only large development projects in the city.
"I want small but clean stalls, those that abide by strict regulations. Urban planning must be direct and thorough. It has to centre on the needs of a modern country while not sidelining any people at the same time," he added.
Warisan KL aims to revitalise Kuala Lumpur through physical upgrades, cultural preservation, historical conservation, and strengthened community values.
