Alor Setar teacher terminated over sexual harassment allegations

ALOR SETAR: A teacher allegedly involved in a sexual harassment case involving two students at SM Keat Hwa (Independence) has been terminated by the school, effective Sunday (April 20).

The school board of director secretary, Ng Koh Weng, announced the decision following a meeting held after the arrest of the 34-year-old teacher.

"On April 19, at about 5pm, the school received a call from the police informing them of the remand of the teacher concerned following a student's complaint regarding sexual harassment.

"In response, the school immediately formed a committee yesterday (April 20).

"From that meeting, several decisions were made, including suspending the teacher involved and prohibiting them from entering the school.

"This is to prevent any further disturbance to the victim," Ng said during a press conference at the school on Monday (April 21).

Ng stated that the school will provide full cooperation to the police in their investigation.

"The school has provided full cooperation to the police, with all documents and files handed over for the investigation yesterday," he said, adding that a report of the incident has also been submitted to the Ministry of Education.

He mentioned that the school will conduct counseling sessions for the victims to ensure their well-being is taken care of.
