Alor Setar teacher detained for alleged sexual harassment


ALOR SETAR: A teacher has been detained by police for alleged sexual harassment at SM Keat Hwa (Independence) here.

he matter was confirmed by principal Chuang Siew Fong and the school board chairman Lee Sih Ren in a statement posted on the school’s Facebook account.

"It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you of a serious case of sexual harassment that has occurred on our campus," the statement on Monday (April 21) read.

The statement said the school received a report from the police informing them that a teacher at the school has been accused of sexually harassing a student.

It said the teacher has since been detained by police to assist in the investigation, adding that the school’s authorities will fully cooperate with police and the education ministry in the case.

The school has also promised to reinforce professional conduct standards among its staff, including implementing guidelines to prevent similar incidents in the future.

A press conference is expected to be held by the school later on Monday (April 21).
