Three family members killed in Tambun fire laid to rest in same grave

IPOH: The remains of three family members who died in a fire at Persiaran Desa Tambun 4, Taman Desa Tambun here early Sunday (Sept 20) were laid to rest in the same grave at the Tambun Islamic Cemetery here at about 8.25pm.

More than 500 people performed the funeral prayer for Raja Ahmad Raja Ali, 70, Zaitun Mohamed, 64, and their 18-year-old grandson, Nik Abdurrahman Azimin Harith Helal, after Maghrib prayers at Masjid Jamek Al Amin in Tambun here.

The post-mortem on all three victims was completed at about 5.30pm at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun's forensic department, after which their remains were taken to the mosque.

A light drizzle added to the sombre atmosphere at the cemetery, as about 300 family members, relatives and friends accompanied the three victims on their final journey.

The elderly couple and their grandson died in a fire that razed a two-storey terrace house early Sunday.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Sayani Saidon said the department received a call at 4am and a team from the Tambun and Ipoh Fire and Rescue stations rushed to the scene.

All three victims died in the fire, while another occupant, Raja Ikhwan Hadi Raja Ahmad, 47, survived as he was believed to have been sleeping in the parking area of the house.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim contributed RM5,000 in initial aid to the victims' family.

The contribution was handed over by Tambun Member of Parliament's special officer Mohamad Hairul Amir Sabri, representing the Tambun Parliamentary Service Centre, to Raja Ikhwan Hadi's family representative. - Bernama
