> The government of Delhi will use AI-enabled cameras to enforce a ban on selling petrol to cars older than 15 years, Makkal Osai reported.
Petrol and CNG cars older than 15 years and diesel cars older than 10 years are banned from the national capital region (NCR) by the Supreme Court in 2015.
The NCR includes Delhi and other cities around the capital city.
The newly elected BJP government of Delhi announced that petrol stations in the city have to comply with the ruling after March 31.
The government has began implementing automatic number plate recognition cameras in the city’s 500 petrol and CNG stations to identify offenders.
So far, 372 petrol stations and 105 CNG stations have been equipped with the cameras.
The ban came into place as a way to combat staggering air pollution levels in the city which consistently ranks among the worst in the world.
