Cyclist, 80, dies in Melaka crash


MELAKA: An 80-year-old man was killed after his bicycle was hit by a car on Jalan Penghulu Jaabar in Bukit Katil here.

The car was driven by a 77-year-old retired teacher, police said.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit identified the victim as Abu Osman from Jalan Sidang Hassan, Bkt Bayan in Bukit Katil here.

He said the victim succumbed to his injuries in the 1.50pm Tuesday (April 15) mishap.

"The victim was on his way to a restaurant and the car was travelling along the straight road when the cyclist suddenly crossed the stretch, resulting in a collision.

"Investigations showed the cyclist had entered the right lane (while trying) to cross the road, which led to the crash," he said.
