Teenage girl, boyfriend, four family members arrested after remains of baby found in Melaka

ALOR GAJAH: A teenage girl, her boyfriend and four of her family members have been arrested following the discovery of the skeletal remains of a baby, believed to have been born about four months ago, buried in the compound of a house in Kelemak here.

Melaka police said those detained were aged between 16 and 40 years old, including the mother of the teenage girl believed to have delivered the baby, as well as her 16-year-old younger brother.

"All six individuals are expected to be brought to an Alor Gajah Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (March 25) for a remand application,” a police spokesperson said on Wednesday (March 25).

The spokesperson said the case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for the offence of secretly concealing a birth, whether the baby died before, during or after delivery.

It was reported earlier that the skeletal remains were discovered on Wednesday morning (March 25) following investigations carried out at the premises by police.

Eyewitnesses, who declined to be named, said the single-storey terrace house is located opposite a vacant unit in a relatively secluded area.

Police officers were earlier seen digging the soil within the compound using hoes as part of efforts to locate evidence.

The forensic team left the scene at about 12.30pm the same day (March 25).
