Putra Heights inferno: IEM says ready to assist victims

PETALING JAYA: The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) said its 42,000 members are ready to support and provide guidance to government agencies and local authorities in investigating the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya.

"We express our deep concern and sympathy for those injured and the property damage in the incident and is willing to extend the services of our technical expertise and professional engineers, some specialising in safety and health within the oil and gas industry.

"Our major concern is the proximity of the combustible facility to nearby residential areas, where the adequacy of existing safety measures and protections must be thoroughly reviewed and, if necessary, upgraded," said IEM in a statement on Wednesday (April 2).

"We wish a swift recovery to all injured residents and express its appreciation for the dedication of the fire and rescue personnel involved in search and rescue operations and in extinguishing the blaze," it added.
