PETALING JAYA: Malaysians in Jakarta have been advised to remain calm and follow official updates from local authorities following a magnitude 6.5 earthquake.
Sinar Harian reported that the tremor was felt in Jakarta and parts of Java and Sumatra.
The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta said Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) recorded the tremor at 4.23am local time.
Its epicentre was about 6km east of the Thousand Islands.
“The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 376km and posed no tsunami threat.
“As of noon, there were no reports of casualties or earthquake-related damage,” the embassy said in a statement on Saturday (Sep 12).
The embassy also advised Malaysians travelling abroad to plan their journeys ahead by setting aside additional funds for personal needs, obtaining travel insurance before departure, and reviewing the scope of their insurance coverage.
