Nepal floods: PERKESO payments to next of kin expected on Nov 4, says Masfih

KUALA LUMPUR: The disbursement of Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) payments to the next of kin of Malaysians who perished in the Nepal-Tibet flood is expected to be expedited, with payments scheduled for Nov 4, says Malaysia Solidarity Families in Hope (Masfih).

Masfih coordinator and spokesperson Dr Manivannan Rethinam said PERKESO conveyed the development to several families, and the collection of supporting documents is being expedited to facilitate the disbursement.

"Following the meeting with the Human Resources Minister on Wednesday (Oct 28), PERKESO began contacting the next of kin of individuals identified as eligible for payments,” he said in a statement on Friday (Oct 30).

He said PERKESO reached out to eligible individuals through several channels, including phone calls, through their employers and via social media.

Dr Manivannan said Masfih also helped to facilitate the process by coordinating contact details, including updating the next of kin’s information, including telephone numbers and contact details, after highlighting several communication challenges at the initial stage.

He added that the coordination had helped streamline communication and enabled the families concerned to be contacted directly for documentation and payment arrangements.

Meanwhile, Masfih said it is still awaiting the government’s decision on the special financial assistance for 54 Malaysian families affected by the tragedy.

Dr Manivannan said Masfih would continue working with the authorities and relevant agencies to monitor developments and ensure that the welfare of all affected families continues to be given attention. – Bernama
