KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain’s new assignment in the police force will only be determined after obtaining the consent of His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to allow his tenure as Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general to end prematurely.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said Mohd Shuhaily’s appointment to the post had previously received the consent of His Majesty, as he is a police cadre officer.
In this regard, he said police were awaiting legal advice from the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) before an official letter could be submitted to the King to seek consent for Mohd Shuhaily's return to the force.
"Until that consent is granted, I am still waiting. So, I cannot confirm his new assignment status, but he will certainly return to PDRM because he is a police officer," he told reporters at the 2026 Malaysian Ex-Police Association's Jasamu Dikenang Dinner at Kingston Hotel @ Bukit Jalil here on Friday (Oct 30).
Mohd Khalid said no decision had been made on Mohd Shuhaily's duties or further action upon his return to the police force.
"Once he returns to me, we will then consider the next course of action based on the Public Services Commission (SPA). We are civil servants, and all disciplinary matters are subject to the SPA and the Police Force Commission,” he added.
On Thursday (Oct 29), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that his ministry had decided last week to return Mohd Shuhaily to the police force after his secondment to AKPS ended, while leaving the determination of his new assignment to the police leadership.
Mohd Shuhaily was appointed AKPS Director-General for a two-year term from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027.
On Oct 21, Mohd Shuhaily pleaded not guilty at the Sepang Magistrate’s Court to two charges of causing injury to two police personnel at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Sept 28. – Bernama
