PUTRAJAYA: Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain (pic), who is facing court charges over an assault case, has been reassigned to the police force.
This is an abrupt end to his two-year appointment as the director-general of Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS). His term as the border control chief was to end on June 30, 2027.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily, who was previously Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department director, was seconded to AKPS in 2025.
“We have decided to return him to the police force,” said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
The decision to end his secondment to AKPS was made last week, he said after the ministry’s monthly assembly yesterday.
Asked about the post of AKPS director-general now, Saifuddin Nasution indicated that it would be filled by the police.
Last Wednesday, Comm Mohd Shuhaily pleaded not guilty at a Magistrate’s Court over two charges of assaulting two policemen at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Sept 28.
Prior to his court appearance, a CCTV recording went viral showing him in what appeared to be a heated confrontation.
Since heading the AKPS, Comm Mohd Shuhaily had introduced various measures aimed at safeguarding the nation’s borders and entry points.
The agency came down hard on smuggling, including the illegal import of electronic waste.
