KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic flow on several highways and main roads in the country was slow- moving following the balik kampung exodus for the Aidilfitri celebration.

A spokesman for the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said the congested stretches yesterday morning included the North-South Expressway (NSE) heading north from Sungai Buaya to Bukit Tagar, Lembah Beringin to Tanjung Malim, Slim River to Bidor, Tapah to Gopeng, Jawi to Bukit Tambun, Juru to Perai and Permatang Pauh to Bertam.

North-bound traffic on NSE is slow-moving from Sungkai to Bidor, Tapah to Gopeng, Sungai Perak to Taiping, Perai to Bukit Mertajam and Bukit Tagar to Tanjung Malim.

“For the southbound direction, traffic is getting heavier from Nilai to the Seremban R&R, Seremban to Senawang and Simpang Ampat to Ayer Keroh.

“On the East Coast Expressway 2, traffic is slow-moving in Kuala Terengganu, while on the KL- Karak Expressway (KLK), congestion persists from the Gombak Toll Plaza to Bentong,” the spokesman told Bernama.

As of 4.30pm, there was a noticeable rise in outbound traffic, with slow-moving conditions reported in both directions of the NSE as well as KLK.

Apart from NSE, he said the same situation was reported on KLK heading east from Gombak to Lentang and Jalan Utama Mempaga to the Karak Toll Plaza.

On the East Coast Highway (LPT) 2, traffic was slow moving at KM432.7 heading north to the Kuala Terengganu toll plaza.

Traffic flow on the main federal roads was congested for up to six kilometres as of 9am yesterday.

Gua Musang police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said he expects the increase in vehicle volume to continue, and that traffic dispersal would be carried out from time to time, with the increased number of personnel on duty.
