Thailand to start strict nationwide traffic enforcement from April 1

BANGKOK: Pol Gen Samran Nualma, deputy commissioner-general of the Royal Thai Police and director of the Traffic Management Centre, said on Wednesday (March 25), that progress was being made in strengthening traffic discipline under the policy of Pol Gen Kittirat Phanphet, commissioner-general of the Royal Thai Police, which is aimed at reducing road accidents through concrete law enforcement.

At present, the Traffic Management Centre is in the final stretch of Phase 1, “Warning Before Fine”, which will end on March 31, 2026.

Data since January show that 196,028 warnings have been issued to offenders through the Police Ticket Management (PTM) system in a bid to raise awareness and encourage changes in driving behaviour before stricter measures take effect.

Entering phase 2: Strict law enforcement from April 1

From April 1, 2026, the Royal Thai Police will move into Phase 2, marked by strict nationwide enforcement of traffic laws.

The crackdown will focus on 10 key offences, which are major factors behind road accidents.

Samran stressed that road users should review and adjust their driving behaviour to ensure full compliance with the law for their own safety and that of fellow road users.

He said the full enforcement of the law is primarily intended to build a safer driving culture and reduce losses on the roads. - The Nation/ANN
