Flood situation in Johor critical despite slight improvement

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has decreased slightly, with 3,876 victims currently affected compared to 3,893 in the early hours of Monday (March 24) morning.

The Johor Disaster Management Committee said the situation remains critical as five districts are still inundated.

"As of 10am on Monday (March 24), 1,146 families remain displaced, taking shelter in 24 temporary relief centres (PPS) in the five districts," it said.

"Johor Baru remains the worst-hit district, with 2,409 victims housed in nine PPS. Other affected areas include Pontian (538 victims in seven PPS), Kluang (487 victims in four PPS), Batu Pahat (358 victims in two PPS) and Kota Tinggi (84 victims in two PPS)," the committee added.

Despite the slight improvement, authorities remain on high alert, closely monitoring river levels and weather conditions.

"No fatalities have been reported so far. Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to stay vigilant and adhere to official instructions," it said.

Those in need of assistance can contact the Johor Disaster Operations Control Centre via its hotline at 07-2322484/5 or WhatsApp at 019-2127215.
