MACC to call Ismail Sabri back tomorrow, says source

SHAH ALAM: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to be called back to give his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Monday (March 17) to provide further testimony.

It is understood that the Bera Member of Parliament is expected to be called to provide further testimony and gather evidence to complete the ongoing investigation into a corruption and money-laundering case.

According to sources, the ninth Prime Minister will be present at the MACC Headquarters on Monday to have his statement recorded.

"Tomorrow he will attend for the fourth time after submitting his asset declaration, and we will see how the session goes tomorrow," said the source.

"Officers will take statements until the MACC is satisfied with the explanations and evidence gathered to complete the investigation," it added.

Sinar Harian reported that the source said on Sunday (March 16) that the MACC has not decided when the statement recording will be completed, as several important documents still need to undergo a justification process in his testimony.

However, the source declined to comment on whether Ismail Sabri will be detained after the statement recording process concludes and said that that as of now the

MACC will continue recording Ismail Sabri's statement.

On March 3, the MACC said that Ismail Sabri is a suspect in the investigation into corruption and money laundering following the discovery of approximately RM170mil in cash in a 'safe house' after a raid was conducted by his team.

The MACC also reportedly seized 13 accounts involving more than RM2mil to assist in the investigation of the case.

It is understood that the MACC has also recorded statements from 36 witnesses to assist in the investigation into the corruption and money laundering case involving Ismail Sabri.
