PETALING JAYA: Edmund Teoh Kheng Yaik, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok's former staff member who was earlier remanded in a graft probe, says he is withdrawing from DAP's central executive committee (CEC) elections this Sunday (March 16).
In a statement issued after his release on March 9, Teoh said he would defend his name against what he called unfounded allegations.
"I was released by the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission), and no charges have been filed against me to date.
"As the investigation into (the) procurement of smartboards is ongoing, I have been advised to refrain from commenting at this stage.
"However, I wish to categorically refute all allegations and accusations made against me.
Teoh added that he has no regrets about joining DAP some 18 years ago, and had served with dedication, loyalty and integrity.
Teoh said he decided to withdraw from the CEC polls to uphold the party’s reputation and to keep from being painted as an "illusory" adversary.
"I will also resign from all positions I hold within the party," he said.
"This is not the end of my political journey, but a necessary pause.
"Once my name is cleared, I will return... to continue my fight for justice, integrity and the people," he added.
On March 6, Teoh and his former colleague Ng Yoot Kuen were summoned by the MACC in connection with a speech Kok made in Parliament where she questioned the rationale behind the Federal Territory Education Department's request for and provision of smartboards.
The speech, delivered on Nov 14, was shared on her social media platforms.
