PETALING JAYA: Edmund Teoh Kheng Yaik, a former staff member of Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, has announced his withdrawal from DAP’s central executive committee (CEC) election scheduled for tomorrow.
Teoh, who was recently remanded in a graft probe, said he is stepping aside to defend his name against what he described as baseless allegations.
“I was released by the MACC, and no charges have been filed against me to-date.
“As the investigation into procurement of smart boards is ongoing, I have been advised to refrain from commenting at this stage.
“However, I wish to categorically refute all allegations and accusations made against me,” he said in a statement.
Teoh added that he has no regrets joining DAP some 18 years ago, emphasising that he has served the party with dedication, loyalty and integrity.
He said his decision to withdraw from the CEC polls was made to protect the party’s reputation and to avoid being painted as an “illusory” adversary.
“I will also resign from all positions I hold within the party. This is not the end of my political journey, but a necessary pause.
“Once my name is cleared, I will return... to continue my fight for justice, integrity and the people,” he added.
On March 6, Teoh and his former colleague Ng Yoot Kuen were summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in connection with a speech Kok made in Parliament.
In her speech on Nov 14 last year, Kok questioned the rationale behind the Federal Territory Education Department’s request for and provision of smart boards.
The speech was later shared on her social media platforms.
