THE Sri Arunachaleswarar Sivan Temple in Seremban has earned a place in the Malaysia Book of Records with its Mahasivarathiri celebration, Malaysia Nanban reported.

According to the MBR Instagram account, 2,613 devotees attended the celebration in stunning traditional attire, setting a new record for the “Largest Participants Wearing Indian Attire in a Mahasivarathiri Festival”.

The festival is celebrated by Saivite Hindus to honour Lord Shiva and devotees stay awake overnight performing various rituals or meditating.

The celebration at the temple, located at the KTM Depot in Jalan Rasah, attracted more than 3,000 devotees as confirmed by MBR, surpassing the previous years’ crowds.

Eight “Kaala Poojas”, speeches and traditional dance performances were performed at the festival.
