Taiwan singer Landy Wen’s pre-concert diet lands her in hospital

A CLOSE friend of ailing Taiwanese singer Landy Wen has revealed that the 46-year-old was in critical condition before being hospitalised for life-threatening septic shock.

Sin Chew Daily reported that Wu Yi Fan had been travelling with Wen for work when he noticed she was unwell and urged her boyfriend to check on her.

Not long after, Wu received a frantic call for help from Wen’s boyfriend, with Wen reportedly too weak to even move.

“I rushed to her house and found her in a lot of pain, badly dehydrated and completely drained of strength. We immediately sent her to the emergency ward,” he said.

Wu said Wen’s blood pressure had dropped so low that hospital staff struggled to locate her veins and eventually had to administer injections through her neck.

He said Wen had been following a strict diet in preparation for a concert, eating only three apples over two days while avoiding water out of fear of fluid retention.

“I told her not to push herself too hard with the weight loss. The doctor also advised her to eat whenever she had an appetite because regaining her strength was the priority,” said Wu.

Wen was transferred to a general ward on May 25 after undergoing 10 days of intensive treatment for sepsis.

Her manager said she could be discharged within a week.

> Victims caught in a recent illegal surrogacy scandal in China reportedly lost more than 100,000 yuan (RM58,500) after allegedly being scammed following failed attempts at assisted reproduction.

China Press reported that a journalist from Henan-based outlet Elephant News, who was investigating the scandal, was allegedly assaulted by a lab operator during the probe.

The journalist was reportedly accused of theft and suffered fractures in the incident.

Authorities said the illegal lab, operating from a villa in Hangzhou, did not possess proper medical qualifications.

They added that an investigation team had been formed and medical equipment seized.
