A SCHOOL in China came under fire after teachers were filmed smashing more than 100 mobile phones confiscated from the students, China Press reported.
A viral video showed the teachers smashing the devices with sledgehammers during a school assembly.
According to the person who uploaded the clip, the incident took place two months ago at a school in Chenzhou, Hunan province.
A school staff member later alleged the phones had remained unclaimed despite repeated attempts to locate their owners.
The staff member added that the phones were destroyed as a warning to discourage students from bringing the gadgets in future.
The Beihu district education bureau reprimanded the school, describing the act as “inappropriate”.
Legal experts said Chinese law prohibits schools from using the destruction of personal property as a form of discipline.
> The daily also reported that two stray puppies found huddled together by the roadside during a heavy downpour have melted hearts online after a passing motorist stopped to rescue them.
The incident occurred in Taiwan when a man, identified only as Wu, noticed two dark shapes by the roadside while driving home.
Taking a closer look, he realised they were two small puppies clinging to each other for warmth.
He grabbed a bucket from his car and gently scooped up the puppies to bring them home.
Wu said he would keep the puppies if no one comes forward to claim or adopt them.
