Man still haunted by broken engagement after 20 years

WHAT began as heartbreak over a broken engagement in 2004 changed the course of a man’s life, as depression spiralled into schizophrenia that has gripped him for more than two decades.

His sister, known only as Ana, 45, said her brother was once a cheerful draughtsman who loved buying chocolates for his family, but became withdrawn after the breakup and was later diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2005.

Since then, his behaviour reportedly changed drastically, from becoming quiet to wandering the streets at night, asking strangers for money and requiring constant supervision to ensure he takes his medication, Harian Metro reported.

Despite concerns for his safety, Ana said the family remains supportive and vigilant, always prepared for any episode.

> Actress Amyza Aznan reportedly copes with the loss of her late son by constantly calling out his name whenever she misses him.

The 50-year-old actress lost her eldest son, Andre Mikhail Khairil Izhar, 20, to lung cancer in February.

When grief overwhelms her, she hugs and kisses his clothes and visits his grave daily, describing it as a “shrine”.

“I know he’s gone, but I still call him ‘son’, ‘Andre’, or ‘Andre, mummy’s darling boy’, especially when I’m alone,” she said, Kosmo! reported.

Amyza said she no longer wants to hide the fragile emotional phase she is going through, viewing grief as a natural process after losing a child.

“I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m tired of always appearing strong in front of others. I don’t see my grief as a failure.

“So when I feel like crying, I just cry. It’s part of the healing process, as long as we know our limits,” she said during a podcast session.

> A solemn Aidiladha prayer turned into a painful ordeal for a 65-year-old man who was gored while trying to calm a sacrificial cow in Kluang.

The incident reportedly occurred when the cow became aggressive, prompting its owner to investigate, Harian Metro reported.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the victim attempted to calm the animal but was gored in the left armpit instead.

“No police report was lodged, but the victim’s condition is stable and he has been allowed to return home,” he said in a statement.
