Parti KDM will bring about change and renewal for Sabah, says its new acting president

KOTA KINABALU: Newly appointed Parti KDM acting president Priscella Peter is determined to bring change and renewal to Sabah.

"We are fighting for the well-being of the people of Sabah, have faith, we can achieve this. KDM will definitely be part of the government after the election," she said.

The 27-year-old daughter of imprisoned Datuk Peter Anthony vowed to uphold her father’s legacy, working closely with her deputy president, veteran politician Datuk Wetrom Bahanda, and other party leaders as a united front.

On Friday (March 7), Parti KDM’s Supreme Council appointed Peter and Wetrom to lead the party following Anthony’s three-year jail sentence and RM50,000 fine for forging a maintenance contract for Universiti Malaysia Sabah in 2014.

With Wetrom, the first-term Kota Marudu MP and Bandau assemblyman, as her right-hand man, Peter aims to strengthen the party’s standing and ensure KDM remains a formidable force.

"I have been entrusted with my father’s responsibilities in leading the party, and Wetrom plays a crucial part within KDM.

"His experience and capabilities as the Kota Marudu MP will be invaluable, especially as we approach the coming state election. This is also why he was previously appointed as KDM’s election machinery director," said Peter.

She stressed the importance of unity within the party, adding, "Wetrom and I, along with other party leaders, will work not just as a team but as a family."

Acknowledging the weight of her new responsibilities, she expressed confidence that with strong leadership and solidarity, KDM could overcome challenges and make a significant impact in the upcoming election.

"I hope all divisions accept this decision, as the leadership’s plans are made in the party’s best interest, not for personal gain," she said.
