PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has urged that police be allowed to investigate the death of an officer at the Treasury Office of the Finance Ministry.
"The following process will commence, and the police will determine the exact cause of death. A thorough investigation will be conducted.
"It is too early for comment aside from stating that we leave it to the police to investigate," he said at a buka puasa event at the ministry headquarters.
He added that he has asked the police to share relevant information from the investigation with the media.
Earlier on Wednesday (MArch 5), a 45-year-old tribunal officer assigned to the Customs Department was found dead at his office in Putrajaya.
It is learnt that the officer, from the Attorney General's Chambers, was found with his neck and legs bound with cable ties at the Treasury Office of the Finance Ministry.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the distress call was received at 10.56am on Wednesday (March 5).
He added that the case has been designated as a Sudden Death Report.
"We have not found any criminal element, but we will know more once the post-mortem is conducted tomorrow," Comm Rusdi said.
In an unrelated matter, Saifuddin noted that while it was good that the Era FM radio DJs apologised for mocking religious beliefs, the legal process must still proceed.
"Apologies are good as they realise that it was something they shouldn’t have done. But the damage is done, and there are parties who were affected.
"This incident teaches us that we must always be careful, and we hope that while others understand our religious and cultural sensitivities, we must also do the same for others so that we can live in peace,” he said.
Following widespread criticism, the radio announcers involved have since issued an official apology through the Era FM Facebook page.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to conduct a thorough investigation following complaints from various parties over the incident.
