KUALA LUMPUR: Umno is seeking to reposition itself as a central political and intellectual platform through its “Rumah Bangsa” initiative.
Party vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the initiative reflects Umno’s renewed vision to move beyond being a conventional political party and instead function as a broader national institution.
“Rumah Bangsa has aims that go far deeper than simply providing space for those who have left Umno to return to the party.
“It is the president’s aspiration to make Umno the most integrated platform, arena and space for Malays to contribute, serve and find shelter.
“This means that if the Rumah Bangsa concept is expanded, it can highlight Umno as something greater than just a political party,” he said in his speech at Umno’s 80th anniversary celebration at the World Trade Centre on Saturday (May 2).
Khaled, who also chairs the Rumah Bangsa Committee, said the concept reflects Umno’s role as a stabilising force in national politics.
He said the initiative would allow Umno to function as a space for engagement not only among party members but also non-members, including professionals, youth, non-governmental organisations and intellectuals.
“It can become the heartbeat and guide of Malay politics, the main driver, the most important player and the focal point of all Malay interests,” he said.
