Sepang Umno leader charged with hurting feelings of Christians


KUALA LUMPUR: Sepang Umno Division Chief Datuk Noorazli Said was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with uttering words that hurt the feelings of Christians during a speech at the 2026 Umno General Assembly last month.

Noorazli, 48, on Thursday (Oct 8)pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out before Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri.

He is alleged to have intentionally hurt the feelings of Christians by uttering words linking Catholic priests and nuns during the 2026 Umno General Assembly at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre, Jalan Tun Ismail here, at 11.20am on Sept 12.

The charge was framed under Section 298 of the Penal Code, which provides a maximum prison sentence of one year, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The court allowed him bail of RM6,000 with one surety and fixed Nov 18 for mention.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Datuk Hasnal Rezua Merican represented the accused. – Bernam
