MAJLIS Amanah Rakyat (Mara) has denied claims by actress Rozita Che Wan, better known as Che Ta, that she had fully settled a business loan she took from the agency totalling about RM1mil.

Its chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the actress still owes Mara over RM440,000, Berita Harian Ahad reported.

He said as of Feb 18, Rozita had only paid almost RM690,000 in cash and through bank transfers.

Asyraf said Rozita had made the payments to postpone the impoundment of her assets and avoid bankruptcy proceedings.

Two weeks ago, Rozita claimed she had fully paid the outstanding sum of the loan.

“Rozita has yet to settle her loan and would need to do so before March 31. The sum she owes us can fund up to 50 Mara polytechnics students.

“I will be strict and will not compromise. The funds belong to the people and are to be used to finance others who need it,” he said.

Rozita’s home in Kota Damansara was raided by Mara and court officials in December last year following her failure to settle the loan she took in 2017.

> Muslim Restaurant Operators Association (Presma) president Datuk Jawahar Ali Taib Khan took a swipe at the “black plastic bag gang” who turn up at eateries to surreptitiously buy food during the fasting hours of Ramadan.

“Every Ramadan, our eateries are targeted. If there is a need to buy food or if it is for the elderly or disabled persons, just do so as you would normally do.

“There is no need to ask for it to be packed in a black plastic bag. We do not know why our customers are buying food or what their intentions are.

“As such, do not turn this ‘black plastic’ reference during the fasting month into some sort of culture,” he said, Metro Ahad reported.

However, Jawahar said such occurrences have declined over the years and he urged eatery operators to refrain from “colluding” with these “gang members”.

He said Presma also encourages its members to open their restaurants in the evening like Ramadan bazaars so Muslims can get their meals at the appropriate time.
