1,404 police personnel disciplined in 2024, 164 dismissed


IPOH: A total of 1,404 police personnel faced disciplinary action last year, with 164 officers and staff dismissed for various offences.

Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standard Compliance Department director Comm Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad said that of the total cases, 799 personnel received warnings, 256 were fined, 122 had their emoluments forfeited, 16 had their salaries withheld, 15 experienced pay cuts, and 32 were demoted.

Comm Azri disclosed this at a press conference here on Monday (Feb 17), where he witnessed the handover of duties between incoming Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin and acting police chief Deputy Comm Zulkafli Sariaat.

In his speech earlier, Comm Azri also revealed that the department received 6,696 complaints and reports from the public regarding the police department in 2024, compared to 6,440 complaints in 2023.

"These complaints are categorised into four areas: integrity, governance, corruption, and general matters," he explained.

On corruption-related cases, he noted that only 86 complaints—representing 1.28% of the total—were received.

Additionally, he said 3,603 disciplinary investigation papers were opened last year, a slight decrease from 3,793 cases in 2023.
