Undercover cops to attend future concerts to curb drug abuse, say Selangor police

SHAH ALAM: Undercover narcotics policemen will be placed at future concerts in Selangor, says Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

This follows the death of four victims at the PinkFish countdown concert on New Year's Eve.

Selangor police chief said placing Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) teams at concerts was among the measures that would be proposed for future concerts.

"We are planning to place NCID teams in concerts to collect intelligence and curb drug sales and abuse.

"They will go undercover to nab those involved in drug-related activities in concerts," he told a press conference at the state police headquarters on Friday (Jan 31).

Comm Hussein said the police are also looking at determining the right number of audience members in concerts according to venues.

"We want to avoid venues to be at overcapacity,", he said.

The proposals are among measures aimed at imposing stricter requirements for future concerts in the state, he said.

"We will meet with local authorities soon to finalise the requirements for future concerts," he said.

Meanwhile, on the investigation into the PinkFish concert, two of those detained for selling ecstasy have been charged on Jan 7 and 9, he said.

"They were charged under Section 12(2) and 15(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

"The third suspect was released on police bail," he said.
