KUALA LUMPUR: A 31-year-old man detained for allegedly threatening comedian Harith Iskander and his family will be charged on Friday (Jan 31).
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob confirmed the suspect will face charges at the KL courts under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
The suspect's remand, initially set until Jan 28, was extended to Friday following a police report lodged by Harith's ex-wife and manager, Dr Jezamine Lim, at the Dang Wangi police station on July 23.
The first incident involved a threat to Harith's life, issued by the suspect at about 11.21am on Tuesday (Jan 21) after the comedian commented on the ham issue.
A second incident occurred at 3pm on Thursday (Jan 30), when Dr Jezamine, while at a restaurant, received a threatening message with a photo of her children.
The suspect's mobile phone was also seized by police.
The threats resulted in the cancellation of Harith's show at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP), as confirmed by Dr Jezamine.
These threats followed Harith's controversial coffee joke related to the "ham and cheese" sandwich issue.
On Instagram, Dr Jezamine Lim stated a police report was filed due to threats against their family, describing them as "despicable, cowardly and inhumane."
To ensure safety, DFP and the family decided to cancel the show amidst ongoing online attacks.
