SHAH ALAM: The owner of the Cecelia Yap Song KL Facebook account, who posted a comment that allegedly insulted Islam, has come forward to apologise, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.

In a statement released by her legal firm, Saibullah MV Nathan and Co, Yap said she was deeply regretful of the sensitive statement posted on social media that upset the public.

She also said she would fully cooperate with investigations into her comment.

"I would like to apologise to all parties who were offended by my comment, especially my Muslim friends whom I respect.

"I deeply regret my insensitive comment and promise not to repeat my actions," she said, according to Sinar Harian on Monday (Jan 27).

Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain had confirmed police had recorded a statement from comedian and actor Harith Iskander over allegations of making insensitive comments on Islam in a Facebook post.

He also said 16 police reports had been lodged nationwide over the incident.

The IGP also confirmed that investigations into Harith and Yap were conducted under Sections 298 and 505 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
