8.4 million tourists visit Perak as of November

IPOH: Perak recorded a total of 8.4 million daily tourists up to November in conjunction with Visit Perak Year (TMP) 2024, says Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

He said data from a Tourism Malaysia survey also showed that 627,292 international tourists came to Perak in the first nine months of 2024, representing a 135% increase compared to the TMP2017 campaign.

"Ipoh and Pangkor Island remain top destinations, but the remarkable achievement of the Larut, Matang and Selama districts stands out.

"This district recorded 1,050,144 visitors, making it the third-most visited district in Perak,” he said during the TMP2024 Finale and New Year’s Eve celebration at Sultan Azlan Shah roundabout, Meru Raya on Tuesday night (Dec 31)

He further said attractions such as the Telegraph Museum, Antong Coffee and Trong Leisure Farm were significant highlights, recording a 30% increase in visitors compared to the previous year.

Saarani added that the surge in tourists demonstrated that the tourism sector benefits not only urban areas but also rural and suburban areas known for their unique heritage and charm.

"This success would not have been possible without the collaboration of various quarters, including government agencies, industry players and most importantly, the people of Perak.

"You have all become unofficial tourism ambassadors for the state. Every social media post, shared photo and positive experience has helped showcase Perak to the world,” he said.

Saarani also said that the state government allocated RM11.31mil under the Perak Budget 2025 for various tourism and cultural development projects.

Of this, RM4mil would be channelled toward improving tourism facilities, upgrading key attractions and enhancing rural infrastructure in tourist hotspots.

"This includes upgrading areas like Pangkor, Ipoh, Taiping and Lenggong to ensure they remain key attractions,” he added. – Bernama
