Man dies trapped under car after Kota Baru accident


KOTA BARU: A young man died after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in an accident with another motorcycle and a car in Dewan Beta on Saturday (Dec 21), Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.

The incident resulted in the death of Muhammad Afiq Zakwan Mohd Arif, 21, who was trapped under the car and died at the scene.

Meanwhile, a 58-year-old woman who was riding another motorcycle sustained minor injuries, and the car driver was unharmed.

Senior Fire Officer II Azhar Ismail, the operations commander of the Tunjung Fire and Rescue Station, told Sinar Harian that they received an emergency call at 12.23pm Saturday.

"Upon arriving at the scene, it was confirmed that an accident had occurred involving a car and two motorcycles.

"With a team of six personnel, we conducted an operation to extricate the young man trapped under the car using special equipment," he told Sinar Harian.

He said it took them 27 minutes to free the trapped victim.

He added that the deceased's body was handed over to the police, while the injured individual was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Kota Baru OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rosdi Daud confirmed receiving a report on the incident when contacted.
