Lorry involved in fatal accident catches fire at Kuala Pilah police HQ

KUALA PILAH: A lorry held as evidence in a fatal accident case has caught fire at the Kuala Pilah police headquarters.

Kuala Pilah OCPD Supt Muhamad Mustafah Hussin said police received information about the incident at 2.45am on Sunday (May 10) from the Kuala Pilah headquarters, informing them that the lorry parked outside the compound was on fire.

He said personnel from the Kuala Pilah Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the location at 3.05am and completed put out the fire about 20 minutes later.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and further investigations are ongoing.

"The lorry and two other vehicles were detained for further inspection at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom). However, the lorry had to be placed outside the police headquarters compound due to its size and the suitability of the storage location.

"The lorry was evidence in a road accident case being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He said the vehicle was involved in an accident on Jalan Kuala Pilah-Batu Kikir involving two other vehicles, resulting in one fatality on April 16.

Those with information related to the incident are urged to assist by contacting the Kuala Pilah IPD at 06-484 2999 or investigating officer Insp Supiah Ishak at 019-993 3978. – Bernama
