Cops issue over 100 traffic summonses during Bukit Bintang joint ops

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 100 traffic summonses were issued to road users following a joint operation in the Bukit Bintang area.

Led by the KL Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), the offences were primarily for illegal parking and traffic obstruction.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob reported that a total of 119 summonses were issued during the operation, which took place between 10pm on Saturday (Dec 14) and 1am on Sunday (Dec 15).

"Six vehicles were also towed for obstructing traffic. We discovered that there are still many drivers who are stubborn and committing traffic obstruction. This operation is aimed at curbing such offences for the benefit of all road users," he said.

The police also focused on motorcycle riders, issuing 76 summonses for various offences.

"Among the offences were not having a driving license, expired licenses, not having side mirrors, fancy number plates, and expired road tax," he added.

DCP Azry Akmar noted that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 60 summonses, while the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) issued 121 summonses.

"A total of 12 officers and 79 personnel were involved in the operation, covering areas including Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Imbi, Jalan Ceylon, Jalan Changkat, Jalan Berangan, Jalan Walter Granier, and Jalan Tengkat Tungshin," he said.

He advised the public to always adhere to traffic regulations, especially around Bukit Bintang, as illegal parking has caused significant congestion in the area, particularly during weekends.

"We will continue with similar operations to ensure that all road users abide by traffic regulations. Those with any inquiries or information can contact the KL police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the Traffic police station hotline at 03-2026 0267/69 or any nearest police station," he said.
