Kota Damansara flash floods bring traffic to 30-minute standstill


PETALING JAYA: Flash floods at Persiaran Surian in Kota Damansara and Taman Pelangi Damansara in Petaling Jaya caused traffic to come to a standstill for half an hour on Tuesday (Nov 12) morning.

Reports from the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), which received the call at 8.09am, stated that five vehicles were trapped in floodwaters that had risen to 0.3 metres.

There were no casualties.

Meanwhile, road users reported being caught in massive traffic jams from Bandar Utama and Mutiara Damansara.

"People were taking as long as one and a half hours to get to work, with traffic building up from the Damansara Puchong Expressway flyover in front of 1Utama.

Someone reported that it took them 20 minutes to turn into The Curve, which was just 2.9 kilometres away," said road user Tracy Toh.

Another road user said her brother-in-law took two hours from Mutiara Damansara to send her niece to school in Sri KDU.

On normal days, the journey only takes 20 minutes. "Traffic in the tunnel from Damansara Kim heading to 1 Utama had also come to a standstill," she said.

Other parts of the Klang Valley that were hit by flash floods included Jalan Setia Prima EU13/E in Bandar Setia Alam.

Floodwaters here were reported to have reached a height of 0.61 metres. Bomba received a report for this area at 9.02am.

There were also no casualties.

The Fire and Rescue Department said that the floodwaters have begun to recede in both areas.

Other parts of the Klang Valley affected by floods on Tuesday morning include Persiaran Surian Damansara, Shah Alam near the Elite exit, parts of the Federal Highway and Klang.
