Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds forecast for Malaysia, says MetMalaysia


PETALING JAYA: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds have been forecast for most parts of Malaysia, including Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

In an advisory issued by the Meteorological Department at 2.45pm on Thursday (Nov 7), thunderstorms are expected over the entire state of Perlis, Melaka and Johor.

Also affected are Selangor (Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang), Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Negri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jempol and Tampin).

Other areas are Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baru), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Pasir Mas, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Terengganu (Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman) and Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Maran, Kuantan and Rompin).

Also seeing rains are Sarawak - Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau), Mukah (Mukah), Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang -, and Sabah - Interior (Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Nabawan, Keningau and Tambunan), West Coast and Sandakan (Tongod and Sandakan).

The advisory is until 7pm on Thursday (Nov 7).

The Northeast Monsoon phase is expected to start on Nov 5 and continue until March 2025, bringing about five to seven episodes of heavy rainfall throughout this period.
