IPOH: Police, along with several agencies, have begun a search and rescue operation for the group of six hikers, who went missing after entering the Gunung Trans Gerah area in Lojing, Gua Musang.
Gerik OCPD Supt Abdul Samad Othman said he is leading the search efforts, which also consist of personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, Forestry Department, Department of Wildlife and National Parks, Civil Defence Force and mountain guides, in Perak.
Supt Abdul Samad said as the operation's commander, he is leading the search along the trail in Perak.
"Those with information about the group are to inform the police as soon as possible to aid the search efforts.
"The people should also not speculate or spread unverified information that could affect the operation," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 7).
The group consisted of four men aged between 39 and 48 and two children, aged nine and 13.
They includes Shafiee Sidek, 49; Hazman Mamat, 43; Wan Ahmad Aslam Wan Zairudin, 39; Siti Zulaiha Norizan, 39; Diya Raisha Wan Ahmad Aslam, 13; and Ahmad Raef Wan Ahmad Aslam, nine.
Supt Abdul Samad said the group is believed to have begun their expedition on Aug 29 at Pos Dakoh in Gua Musang, and were expected to exit at Pos Kemar in Perak on Sept 3.
"The last communication from the group with their family was on Sept 1 at about 7.47am.
"The family was told that they were in good shape before heading towards Perak.
"On Sept 6, the family still had not received any news and lodged a police report," he added.
