IPOH: The Perak Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) will set up a tiger trap near Felda Lepang Nenering following a sighting of the animal in the area.
The tiger was spotted near Felda Lepang Nenering and Kampung Alai in Gerik on Wednesday (Nov 4).
Perak Perhilitan director Dr Pazil Abdul Patah said the animal is believed to have ventured out in search of food and a new roaming territory.
"Its age and sex are yet to be determined," he said when contacted on Sunday (Nov 8).
It was previously reported that a two-minute video clip showing a tiger by the roadside, believed to have been filmed in the vicinity of Felda Lepang Nenering, went viral on social media.
The video drew various reactions from social media users, with many expressing concern over the safety of residents and motorists in the area.
In a separate incident, a social media user posted a picture claiming to have spotted a tiger at Slow Temiang in Manek Urai, Kelantan.
However, Pazil said the tiger spotted in Slow Temiang was a different animal from the one sighted in Gerik, adding that the two locations were far apart.
When asked whether further action would be taken by Kelantan Perhilitan over the sighting, he confirmed that the relevant state authorities were looking into the matter.
