Thunderstorms and heavy rain forecast for four states until noon

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across four states, effective until noon on Sunday (Nov 8).

In Peninsular Malaysia, the morning weather alert covers the east coast and southern coastal areas, specifically Kemaman and Dungun in Terengganu, alongside Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin in Pahang.

In Johor, affected districts include Mersing and Kota Tinggi.

Over in East Malaysia, severe weather is forecast for Pitas and Kudat in the Kudat division of Sabah.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.

The notice was officially issued by the department at 8.50am on Sunday.
