JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Umno Youth has called on the Attorney General to resign over what it described as mishandling the implementation of the Pardons Board's decision concerning former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Its chief Noor Azleen Ambros (pic) said the Attorney General should take responsibility for alleged negligence and lack of care in handling the decision, which was made on Sept 18.

"Johor Umno Youth fully supports the firm stance taken by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim on the matter.

"The Istana Negara statement issued on Saturday (Nov 7) demonstrated that the King had carried out His duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Federal Constitution," he said in a statement on Sunday (Nov 8).

Noor Azleen expressed disappointment and dissatisfaction with the Attorney General's handling of the implementation of the Pardons Board's decision.

He alleged that the handling of the matter was careless and gave the impression that there was an attempt to disregard the board's decision.

Noor Azleen said this was evident when both Istana Negara and the Prime Minister's Office had to issue separate statements on Nov 7 to clarify the actual position.

"Johor Umno Youth urges the Attorney General to take responsibility for the lack of care and negligence in implementing this decision by honourably stepping down immediately," he said.

Noor Azleen also said a police report had been lodged against the Attorney General.

He added that it would be more appropriate for the Attorney General to step aside to ensure that investigations into the matter could be conducted transparently and with integrity.
