Thunderstorms and heavy rain forecasted for 11 states till 6pm


PETALING JAYA: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are forecast for the afternoon in over 11 states, including Selangor and Penang.

The Malaysia Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued an advisory at 2.20pm on Wednesday (Nov 6) stating that thunderstorms are expected throughout the states of Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak.

Other areas are Kelantan (Pasir Mas, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Maran and Kuantan) and Selangor (Sabak Bernam and Hulu Selangor).

Also impacted are Negri Sembilan (Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin) and Johor (Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat and Mersing)

Additionally it forecasted that thunderstorms would hit Sarawak - Kuching, Samarahan (Samarahan and Asajaya), Sarikei, Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah, Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang and Sabah - Interior (Sipitang and Beaufort) and West Coast (Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud).

The advisory will last until 6pm.

According to MetMalaysia, the Northeast Monsoon started on Tuesday (Nov 5) and will continue until March 2025, bringing five to seven episodes of heavy rainfall throughout this period.
