GUA MUSANG: A family of four and two mountain guides have been out of contact since Sept 1 while on a hiking trip in Gunung Trans Gerah, Lojing Permanent Forest Reserve.
Gua Musang OCPD Supt Sik Choon Foo said the group’s last message was received by the family at 7.47am on Sept 1, saying they were safe and that it had not rained for the previous three days.
“However, there has been no further communication since then,” he told reporters on Monday.
The missing family members from Yong Peng, Johor, are Wan Ahmad Aslam Wan Zairudin, 39, his wife Siti Zulaiha Norizan, 39, and their children Diya Raisha, 13, and Ahmad Raef, nine.
The two mountain guides are Shafiee Sidek, 49, and Hazman Mamat, 44, both from Kuala Krai.
Supt Sik said the families lodged a police report at Bukit Jelutong police station in Shah Alam at 8.57am on Sunday after failing to contact the group.
He said preliminary investigations showed that the six entered the forest through Pos Dakoh on Aug 29 and were scheduled to exit through Pos Kemar in Perak on Sept 3.
A Kelantan mountain guide also met the group at Kem Lata Air on Aug 30 before they continued their journey, he said.
“On Aug 31, the family received a message saying the group was safe but slightly behind schedule.
“They were told that if they could not make it out on Thursday, they might have to take another bus and were expected to arrive on Friday,” he said.
Supt Sik said police were informed by a Kelantan Forestry Department officer on Sunday that the group was believed to be heading towards Perak.
