Floods: 1,400 cops on standby in Perak for relief efforts

IPOH: About 1,400 policemen are on standby in Perak and ready to be mobilised at any time to help in areas affected by flash floods, says Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris.

The Perak police chief said apart from those stationed in the various districts, additional manpower on standby includes members of the General Operations Force, marine police and Federal Reserve Unit.

"As of now, 58 policemen are already on the ground in the affected districts.

"We have also opened our central control centre and district control centres, which will be operating 24 hours," he said in a statement on Friday (Oct 18)

Comm Azizi said 11 temporary relief centres have been opened in five districts, namely Hilir Perak, Kerian, Sungai Siput, Kampar and Perak Tengah.

"There are 1,474 victims currently seeking shelter at the relief centres.

"The people are advised to be (aware of) current weather conditions and take precautions.

"They should (be ready) to relief centres when instructed.

"Information and warnings about the latest weather conditions can be obtained on electronic and social media platforms, official portals, MyCuaca app and the Meteorological Department hotline at 1-300-22-1638," he added.
