Selangor Sultan warns against betrayal of public trust

SHAH ALAM: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has urged Muslims to shun any betrayal of trust, warning that it can erode public confidence and undermine the well-being of society.

In a Facebook post by the Selangor Royal Office on Friday (Aug 28), the Ruler said anyone entrusted with managing the assets and interests of the Muslim community, particularly public funds, carries a heavy responsibility before God.

His Royal Highness therefore called on everyone to discharge their responsibilities with honesty, no matter how small, saying trust and integrity are fundamental to genuine prosperity and independence.

"Managing public funds with integrity is a sign of our love for the community and the country. Do not allow wealth meant to benefit the people to be misappropriated for personal gain.

"Those guilty must be punished, those who uphold their trust must be supported and good systems must continue to be improved," the Ruler said.

Sultan Sharafuddin said true independence also begins with the ability to free oneself from destructive impulses, including greed, temptation and betrayal.

His Royal Highness also expressed concern that while ordinary people struggle with hardship, some continue to enjoy wealth gained through betrayed trust and manipulated justice.

"This is the injustice that arises when power is no longer guided by trust, but driven by greed," His Royal Highness said.

Sultan Sharafuddin also reminded Muslims that those who commit injustice would not escape divine judgement.

The Ruler warned that signs associated with the end times were becoming increasingly apparent, including responsibilities being placed in the hands of the unqualified and positions of trust being abused for personal gain.

Earlier, Sultan Sharafuddin attended a Yasin recital, prayers and tahlil in conjunction with the state-level 69th National Day celebration at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque.
