Budget 2025: EPF contributions to be mandatory, including for non-citizens

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says the government plans to make it mandatory for all non-citizen workers to contribute to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), with this proposal to be implemented in phases.

"The government is committed to providing fair treatment to all workers, regardless of nationality, in line with international standards."

He also said EPF is reviewing its schemes to allow a portion of members' savings to be directly transferred into the EPF accounts of close family members.

Anwar said this in preparation for Malaysia's ageing population as EPF is working to strengthen its intergenerational transfer approach.

Anwar said the government plans to extend tax relief for individual income on contributions to Private Retirement Schemes and deferred annuity premiums until the assessment year 2030.
