Sunken Pulau Kapas ferry ripples through social media

BUTTERWORTH: A submerged picture of Pulau Kapas, the ferry which sank on July 24 has been making the rounds on social media, with some linking it to Pulau Pinang, the floating museum ferry.

Sources confirmed to The Star that it is the Pulau Kapas which has been scrapped and work is going on presently to cut and remove the ferry at the Butterworth Wharf.

There was some confusion that wrongly assumed the submerged vessel was the Pulau Pinang which is now docked at the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal (SPCT) to repair a leak in her engine room.

Pulau Kapas and another ferry, the Pulau Undan had been scrapped due to corrosion in their hulls.

The floating ferry museum which is set to be opened at the end of this year was towed to SPCT through the Bagan Dalam slipway on Oct 3.

However, it tilted significantly and started to sink when it began taking in water a few days after being towed to a shallow area near SPCT for repairs.
