IPOH: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has recorded RM12.18mil in unpaid traffic fines from 40,595 outstanding summonses issued to goods vehicle operators and bus companies.
JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said 940 goods transport companies account for 40,222 unsettled summonses, while five bus companies hold 373 outstanding summonses from 2023.
He said targeted enforcement will be taken against companies, vehicle owners, and drivers with many outstanding summonses who failed to settle their dues.
"These companies are given a 14-day notice to settle all outstanding summonses.
"If the companies fail to settle these summonses within 14 days starting Friday (Sept 11), JPJ will take further action”, he told a press conference during Ops Tegar at the Perak JPJ Headquarters here on Thursday (Sept 10).
Aedy Fadly said once the 14-day notice expires, JPJ will not compromise and will work with the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) to suspend the affected companies' operating permits.
He added that if JPJ detects non-compliant vehicles on the road, it will impound them until the companies settle their dues.
"We find these companies have an indifferent attitude. Failing to clear their summonses despite notices and reminders. Yet some remain stubborn.
"While some companies claim to be busy and have forgotten to pay. They are taking the easy way out by refusing to settle their summonses," he said.
He identified the top goods transport companies with the most unsettled summonses as KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd with 3,083 summonses, followed by Mainiza Mantap Sdn Bhd (889), Boon Chin Transport Sdn Bhd (767), Syarikat Ehsan Enterprise Sdn Bhd (482), and Tashwin IT Enterprise (321).
Meanwhile, bus companies with outstanding summonses include Cepat Express Sdn Bhd with 199 summonses, GJG Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd (108), AC Interstate Coach (M) Sdn Bhd (23), Sri Theven Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd (22), and Star Mart Express Sdn Bhd (21). — Bernama
