KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh has questioned how Pakatan Harapan can continue to consider working with Barisan Nasional despite its repeated criticism of Umno.
He claimed Pakatan’s losses in Johor and Negri Sembilan also spurred them to continue criticising Umno.
“They are saying we are no good, and then they come and say cooperation discussions will be held with Umno.
“You have criticised me, my leaders and then want to sit with us and campaign? Walk on.
“Who do you think we are? Your puppets?” he said when winding up debates at the Umno Youth Annual General Assembly here on Thursday (Sept 10).
He also asked Pakatan to forget about working with Barisan in Melaka.
“Personally, I cannot wait to go up against them,” he said.
Dr Muhammad Akmal added that he personally replies to hate comments directed at him online.
“If we want to fight, we do it up front. If you comment disparaging remarks to me, I will do the same.
“My attitude is who I am and my response depends on who you are,” he said.
He added that the Umno Youth has never backed down from a challenge, asking Pakatan Harapan to face Barisan head-on at the Melaka polls.
Dr Muhammad Akmal also challenged the youth wing to stand up for party leaders who are facing criticism.
“They may say those in Umno are thieves as they have been charged by the courts. But does being charged mean they are guilty?
“Give moral support to our leaders. We should not be ashamed as our leaders are not yet proven to be guilty,” he said, adding that there are also Pakatan leaders who have been previously imprisoned.
